As progress is made in the recovery of other recyclable materials, discarded food represents a growing portion of disposed materials in the Southeast and nation.   Reducing and recovering discarded food will help cut dependence on landfills, prevent greenhouse gas generation, help organizations achieve zero-waste-to landfill and other sustainability goals, and create business and job creation opportunities.
