The importance of recycling’s economic impact needs constant reinforcing. SERDC works with state recycling organizations to help set up legislative recycling awareness days. Members of the recycling industry, including businesses, non-profits, and individuals have the chance to meet with their legislators to discuss interests and recycling issues that matter most. These meetings lead to a more clear understanding of the businesses and jobs in a legislator’s district and the related jobs created. SERDC facilitates the logistics for the events and holds webinars to prepare participants to be most effective in communicating the economic message about recycling. SERDC has led or supported events in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Some of the state events are held annually.
